Winners Swiss Press Award 2023

This year’s Swiss media awards are shared between three female German-speaking journalists, one female French-speaking journalist, and one team from German-speaking Switzerland. Maurine Mercier is the Swiss Press Journalist of the Year and Alex Kühni is the Swiss Press Photographer of the Year.
The Swiss Press Awards 2023 were held by the Reinhardt von Graffenried Foundation on Friday 28 April, at the University of Bern. The Los Angeles based musician and actor Carlos Leal premiered the Swiss Press Song 23 “Regarde”, which he had composed especially for the occasion.
The award ceremony was streamed live from the University of Bern at http://www.swisspressaward.ch and on youtube, where it can still be viewed.
The winners are: Barbara Achermann (Swiss Press Text), Pascal Albisser, Julian Schmidli, Lukas Frischkencht(Swiss Press Online), Maurine Mercier (Swiss Press Audio), Cristina Karrer (Swiss Press Video), Martina Brassel (Swiss Press Local) and Alex Kühni (Swiss Press Photographer of the Year).
Swiss Press Award Winner Overview 2023
For their outstanding work each of the award winners was presented with a Diamond trophy and the sum of CHF 15,000. The 2nd and 3rd prizes in all categories received CHF 3,000 and CHF 1,000 respectively. The category winners of the Swiss Press Photo each received CHF 3,000. The Journalist of the Year and the Photographer of the Year left the stage with CHF 25,000 each.
The Reinhardt von Graffenried Foundation was established as an independent organisation with the aim of promoting Swiss journalism.
The Swiss Press Yearbook in four languages, showcasing the work of the award-winning journalists along with Switzerland’s best press photos is being published by Steidl Verlag for the third time.
The exhibition “Swiss Press Photo 23” launches its national tour on 5 May 2023 in the Swiss National Museum in Zurich (5 May – 25 June), before moving on to the Bern Historical Museum (31 August – 29 October), then to the Château de Prangins (16 November 2023 – 25 February 2024) and to the Museo Castello Grande in Bellinzona (2 March – 28 April 2024).
