2024The Samstagsrundschau is a weekly interview format on Radio SRF 1. The questions are probing, the discussions are controversial, the show is 30 minutes, mostly live, and there are “no pre-screened questions,” according to the editorial team. For example, on 23rd March, following the emergency sale of Credit Suisse, which was financially secured by the federal government, Dominik Meier confronted Finance Minister Karin Keller-Sutter with media reports that the Federal Councillor had been under pressure from the USA and Great Britain to find a solution. The turbulent days are meticulously reconstructed, and Keller-Sutter has to face the question: “How much is your liberal worldview wavering today?” Meier also discussed the CS rescue with with the president of the National Bank, Thomas Jordan, on 24th June, but the main focus was on current affairs, such as inflation and rising rents due to the interest rate policy. Shortly before that, the new federal councillor, Elisabeth Baume-Schneider, had to defend her asylum policy. And on 25th November, the presenter wants Petros Mavromichalis, the EU ambassador to Switzerland, to provide all the answers regarding a new framework agreement: “Is it still possible for Switzerland to overturn the outcomes of preliminary talks during these negotiations, for example in regard to wage protection? Yes or no?”
