Timo Grossenbacher

In few words, with all the more impressive figures, this contribution shows how Switzerland has been built over in recent decades. It starts with an increase in residential area the size of Lake Geneva within a 25 year period and continues with the rate of new construction (a new family home every 70 minutes). The contribution highlights the desire for larger dwellings, the population growth and new motorways, as causes of the spread of concrete. Readers scrolling further find aerial images of Egerkingen (SO), at the intersection of the A1 and the A2 motorways – and end up with a graphical representation of the changing borders between building land and agricultural land, represented over time, in their own municipality. In the end, a link leads to the documentary film entitled “Hüslischweiz ohne Ende” (“The Neverending Spread of Little Houses Across Switzerland”).
