The Political Moment (Swiss Press Video 2017, by Alain Rebetez) - Swiss Press Award
RTS Télévision
Alain Rebetez
“A mischievous kid let loose in the wings of parliament” – that’s how Alain Rebetez was once described by the ernest newspaper “Le Temps”. This was the daily newspaper’s way of celebrating the parliamentary journalist who “leaps out of the small screen” and dares to ruffle the overly smooth feathers of political journalism. And so, every week, the French-speaking Swiss look forward to “L’instant politique” (“The Political Moment”) broadcast at the end of the daily news each Monday on RTS UN. Gurning, with eyes popping and the exaggerated gestures of a mime, Alain Rebetez reports on federal politics. Sometimes humorously, but always passionately, he exposes the hand kept close to the chest, elaborates on small matters of obsession, reveals false secrets and true motivations. He is insolent and funny – just like a character from a play by Eugène Labiche. He reports politics, while others analyse or try to convince. His targets sometimes find him annoying; the viewers, however, always vote for him.
