May 26, 2015. Chalan Lama, 28, from Gang, was on his way to repair a water pipe when the disaster struck. He now feels guilty for not being able to help his family trapped in their home. His son and mother were buried under the rubble. Chalan's mother died trying to save her 18-month-old grandson. The baby was protected by his grandmother's body during the three hours it took to pull him from the debris.

Memory and future erased in an instant

Sébastien Anex

Thousands of Nepalese find themselves with the promise of a handful of dollars from the government, possibly a tarpaulin from an NGO, and, above all, a destroyed house, without any insurance. Lives shattered. The official death toll from the earthquake will be a pale reflection of the catastrophic situation. Courageous, however, they remain standing here in front of their homes, telling their stories.
