The civil war in Angola ended in 2002. The removal of mines from the severely contaminated lands continues into the present day. Many victims of mines are forced to craft prosthetics for themselves, using any materials they can lay their hands on, until such time when they can receive professional help in the hospital of the city of Huambo. The orthopaedic centre has built up this morbid collection in recent years, photographed on 14th October 2016.
