Local journalism in magazine format (Swiss Press Text 2012, by Sabine Arnold) - Swiss Press Award

Im "Landboten"

Text
2012

Sabine Arnold

To mark its 175th anniversary in 2011, the Winterthur newspaper "Landbote" presented its readers with six single-theme magazines. The concept and layout were specifically designed to break away from daily journalism and illuminate life in the city of Winterthur and its surroundings in a colorful, surprising, and in-depth way. The magazine format was designed to showcase not only the text, but also the images. Under the overarching themes of global, young, family, sound, Zurich, and sacred, the editorial team explored topics such as Winterthur as a business location in a globalized world, the beauty industry's obsession with youth, politically exploited networks, Winterthur's dialect, the love-hate relationship with its big sister, Zurich, and—just in time for Christmas Eve—Winterthur's sacred cows, its untouchable taboos. The magazines were produced parallel to the newspaper's daily business and were included with the "Landbote" as weekend reading material.
