In the summer of 2015, 48 unaccompanied minor asylum seekers (UMA) lived in Basel-Landschaft. The canton placed the majority of these young people in regular asylum centers, without additional care. In doing so, the canton violated the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This two-part report exposed the abuses. Following fierce criticism, the canton acted and is now setting up a residential center.
