For young golden eagles, the first winter is a particularly tough struggle for survival. Their hunting skills aren't yet sufficient for a successful hunt. Therefore, they search dozens of kilometers for dead animals – and there they face fierce competition from other eagles. I have photographed such situations in Switzerland for many years, each lasting for weeks at a time. Quiet locations are becoming increasingly rare. Some images have been published, and one won an award at the Freiburg Natural History Museum.
