Seealpsee becomes a Mecca for ice skaters

Urs Bucher

It may not be white, but it is cold on 17th December 2016 in the Alpstein, Appenzellerland. The Seealpsee lake, which is situated at 1143 meters above sea level, is frozen solid and safe to walk on for the first time in ten years. Through the transparent black ice, you can see the dark lake floor – a natural spectacle which, on this Saturday, attracts hundreds of hikers, skaters and ice hockey players to this idyllic area.
