Nach dem Hauptstudium Bachelor of Arts in Medien- und Kommunikationswissenschaften an der Universität Freiburg hat Marius Aschwanden zwei Praktikum beim Berner Oberländer und beim Frutigländer absolviert. Bei letzterem erhielt er 2011 eine Festanstellung als Redaktor. 2012 wechselte er in derselben Funktion zum Berner Oberländer. Von 2015 bis 2021 war er als Redaktor und die letzten drei Jahre als stellvertretender Ressortleiter Kanton Bern bei der Berner Zeitung tätig. Seither ist er in der fusionierten Redaktion von BZ und Bund angestellt.
