A year in the vineyard

Joël Burri

Vines occupy a special place in the Vaudois identity. 24heures.ch followed a winemaker from La Côte for a year, revealing to readers the behind-the-scenes of her profession. Each month, a new video was published, forming a coherent whole by the end of the year. Each presentation addresses working the land, cellar tasks, and the commercial challenges of wine production. 2013 was exceptional from a meteorological perspective: hail destroyed a large portion of the vineyard, causing a definite economic impact. But people of the land are used to enduring the elements and making the best of any situation; to save what could be saved, winemaker Noémie Graff embarked on vinifying a sparkling wine. The first episodes of this project and the IT development were produced by Joël Burri, then after he left the editorial staff, Anetka Muhlemann took over.
