Gino Mäder's death

Gian Ehrenzeller

This summer, the cycling world was temporarily stopped in its tracks. During a stage of the Tour de Suisse, Swiss rider Gino Mäder (168) fell badly on the descent at the Albula Pass on 15th June, and died the next day in a hospital in Chur. The grief is profound: Stefan Bissegger of team EF Education-Easy Post, Silvan Dillier of team Alpecin-Deceuninck, Stefan Küng of team Groupama-FDJ, and Raphael Meyer, CEO of the Tudor Pro Cycling Team (from left), are in each other’s arms (171). The 6th stage does not go ahead. Instead, the members of Gino’s team lead the field on a 20-kilometre memorial ride to Oberwil-Lieli (169). During the stage on 17th June, which goes ahead as planned, the fans again remember the departed cyclist (170).
