The canton of Lucerne is cutting costs, including in the asylum system. Since April 2015, temporarily admitted refugees have received significantly less social assistance. The pressure is intended to motivate them to take up employment. But finding work is difficult. So what does this austerity measure mean in reality? A research study includes visits to people living on the bare minimum and with little prospect of changing their lives.
