In-differences draws on the work of Ritratti Metropolitani (RM), an independent research project that began in 2010 as a long-term serial documentation project. The concept involves the formal reiteration of a fixed reference point (subject) in tension along a continuously shifting hyperplane (background). This paradigm, as it develops, is simultaneously constituted in an online archive (http://www.ritrattimetropolitani.ch) and then takes on different forms in the case of publications (exhibitions). In 2014, the author, as a Bally Artist 2013 (Bally Foundation for Culture), applied the RM methodology in From B to Y (BY); a journey that symbolically connects different people, places, cultures, and religions along a purely conceptual common thread of equality (single plane). The photographs selected for the competition are from sessions held in Switzerland along From B to Y.

Matteo Fieni (*1976) uses photography with an iconoclastic approach. His pictures describe basic and essential contents and try to break with traditional formal structures. Fieni considers his hometown and work base Lugano as a place between two cultures, where the tension catholicism - protestantism is present. In his engaged and lively research he creates pictures that combine the intensity of his 'southern' caracter with 'nordic' concepts of imagemaking. The investigation of this clash between concepts leads him to a genuine form of photography, displaying landscape, urbanity and human portraits. He graduated in photography at the IED in Milan, and studied communication science at USI (Università Svizzera italiana). Fieni is the artistic director of the no profit association Across Photography 'AP' in Geneva, member of Switzerlands professional jouranlists association 'Impressum' and the Swiss visual artist 'Visarte'.
