Apokalypse. Now? Wow!

Marco Frauchiger

Apocalypse. Approximately 3,000 people died in the terrorist attacks in New York ten years ago. Many spoke at the time of a catastrophe of apocalyptic proportions. Famines, the financial crisis, and the nuclear disaster in Fukushima have also been described as harbingers of the end times. Why are people repeatedly moved by the idea that the world could end or undergo fundamental change? The newspaper "reformiert" explored this question in its dossier, which also offered background information on the biblical apocalypse and the end-time fears surrounding the year 2012. Photographer Marco Frauchiger traveled the United States in March and July 2011 to search for apocalyptic motifs.
