The largest city in the Mittelland

Emanuel Freudiger

Conceptual photo series for the special edition of the Aargauer Zeitung on the Mittelland. Seven hundred years ago, the region between Bern, Basel, and Zurich was still a fragmented area, characterized by diverse interests. Today, it has grown together into a single settlement area. A single city. The largest in Switzerland. All images were taken between August 14 and 19, 2011, in the cantons of Aargau, Solothurn, Basel-Landschaft, and Zurich. I used a Yashicamat 124-G twin-lens reflex camera as the recording medium, and Kodak Ektachrome E100VS film, which was cross-developed and then scanned.
