In November, Rémy Pagani, an administrative councilor for the City of Geneva (Ensemble à Gauche), emerged victorious from a long standoff with the real estate industry. The Federal Court partially validated the amendment to the regulations relating to the ground plan (RPUS) and acknowledged that the Municipality protects the use of downtown entertainment venues such as theaters, cinemas, and restaurants. His victory gives wings to the City of Carouge, which is currently considering doing the same. This series of articles consists of an investigation into the case of a cinema whose owners want to convert it into a fitness center, for a significantly higher rent. A symbolic case. An article on the Federal Court's decision, as well as a follow-up article on the City of Carouge and an interview with a sociologist on the Geneva case. Enjoy!
