Sahara sand in the Swiss sky

Yvain Genevay

The Swiss sky turned yellow this Saturday, February 7, 2021, due to a cloud of sand from the Sahara that flew over the country from the west. This phenomenon, while not particularly exceptional, was, on that day, particularly strong. Nearly 182 million tons of sand are blown away from this desert each year.
