Nicolas Buttet gave up a career as a lawyer to embrace the life of a hermit. He lived for five years in total destitution in the Scex Chapel, on the cliff overlooking Saint-Maurice, in Valais. A meeting was held on the occasion of the 1400th anniversary of this sanctuary.
