Emergency felling of six trees in downtown Geneva

Magali Girardin

An entire avenue of hackberry trees—a species native to the south—had to be preemptively cut down in the fall of 2015 due to the risk of them falling. An invisible fungus was eating away at the roots of the trunks. These trees had been planted over a century ago along Rue de la Croix-Rouge, overlooking Bastion Park and the Reformation Wall.
