The 4-year-old girl suffers from the rare Aicardi syndrome (Alessia is completely paralyzed, suffers from daily epileptic seizures, has severe mucus production that leads to shortness of breath, is fed through a nasogastric tube, and is visually impaired). Approximately 900 families care for their severely disabled child themselves. They are at a significant financial disadvantage compared to parents who place their child in a care home.

Désirée Good, geboren 1982 in Zürich, Mitglied der Fotografenagentur 13 Photo, studierte Fotografie an der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. Zwischendurch verbrachte sie einige Zeit an der School of Visual Art in New York. Ihre Bilder wurden im «NY Times Magazine», im «Spiegel», im «Photographie Magazin» sowie in vielen weiteren nationalen und international Publikationen veröffentlicht.
