Women make up more than half of the world's population. The number of female members of parliament worldwide has recently reached a record high: one in five political representatives is female. The role of women in the family is also changing. Nevertheless, it is often still the mother who bears the burden of the family household. Part-time work is also still considered a typical feature of female employment. Education opens the door to the labor market and thus to participation in economic life, healthcare, and political participation. The proportion of adequately educated women is steadily increasing. For many, however, the right to education worldwide exists only on paper. Women's roles are diverse. Using various indicators from the areas of public life, business, education, health, and motherhood, Piotr Fedorczyk and Sylke Gruhnwald shed light on the situation of women worldwide in the 21st century. The focus is on the situation of women in Switzerland, which can be compared with that in other countries.
