Mendrisio is a quiet town of 12,000 inhabitants. Yet years ago it installed an extensive and sophisticated video surveillance system. Why? What purpose did the 36 electronic eyes protruding from the historic buildings of the historic center, from the streetlights, or from the walls of the parking garages serve? And how do residents cope with the presence of the cameras? An investigation into the Sottoceneri municipality, which, along with Locarno and Lugano, pioneered public video surveillance in Ticino.
