Juvenile delinquency: forcing dreams with violence

Lucia Hunziker

For the November issue of the parenting magazine "Fritz und Fränzi," photographer Lucian Hunziker shot a report about a young offender serving a sentence in the Uitikon Correctional Facility (MZU) for multiple armed robberies and attempted murder. Above all, the young offenders in the MZU must understand that they must take responsibility for their crimes. Through many hours of self-reflection, which also takes place with therapeutic support, the young men learn to better perceive themselves and control their behavior. They can also complete an apprenticeship at the MZU—in the case of the person portrayed, as a chef. The photographer accompanied this young offender one day in September at the MZU Uitikon.
