On February 9, the Swiss went to the polls. Among the three issues put to the vote, the initiative "Financing Abortion is a Private Matter" called for an end to the reimbursement of abortions by basic health insurance. According to the initiators, this measure would save between 8 and 20 million francs per year (or between 0.03% and 0.07% of the total cost of compulsory health insurance).
