On February 9, 2014, Swiss voters approved the SVP's mass immigration initiative with 50.3 percent of the vote. The results revealed a deep urban-rural divide. Horrenbach-Buchen in the Bernese Emmental was the municipality with the highest approval rating in Switzerland, at 93.6 percent. A report from the village immediately after the vote highlights the paradox between the decision and the reality of the municipality, as well as the isolation, poverty, and fear of the residents.
