Christmas at the airport (Swiss Stories 2015, by David Karasek) - Swiss Press Award

We considered: Where is Christmas the least Christmassy? Where is there no celebration or pause for thought on Christmas Eve? Where does everything carry on as normal? Together with Yvonne Eisenring, I spent the holidays at Zurich Airport and produced a daily magazine. We searched for Christmas at the airport - and found it: We accompanied the airport chaplain and attended his service on December 24th, we waited at customs for passengers returning with too many Christmas presents, and we met a homeless person who spent Christmas Eve in the airport building. And every day we waited in the arrivals hall for the "Come, Little Children" section. For three days we were at the airport almost around the clock, returning to the editorial office in between to edit the reports. Yvonne Eisenring and I produced all the magazine sections ourselves and on the day of broadcast.
