With the social changes Russia is undergoing, the symbol of the dacha is disappearing: the wealthiest are buying dachas to demolish them and build luxury pavilions on the land, while another group of Russians can no longer afford to live in the city and live in these venerable little houses year-round, even though they were traditionally only inhabited in the summer.
