Emmental author Ernst Eggimann is considered the father of modern Bernese German poetry. He rose to prominence 40 years ago with poems such as "henusode" and "e satz zmitts id wäut." A collection of his poetry was republished on his 75th birthday in April 2011. Eggimann published his last poems 30 years ago. Today, he leaves the writing to others. However, he is pleased that dialect literature has recently gained new momentum – with the spoken-word movement surrounding authors such as Pedro Lenz and Beat Sterchi. In an interview on the occasion of his 75th birthday, Ernst Eggimann discusses, among other things, the appeal of Bernese German in literature and his relationship with the Emmental valley.
