Andalusians are renowned for their unique festivals celebrated by entire villages, from large towns to small ones. Among the most famous is Semana Santa (Holy Week), celebrated particularly in the Andalusia region. One of the hallmarks of this festival is the wearing of the Nazarenos' robes. It is worn by penitents during processions. The main feature, however, is the procession of floats bearing their respective images of Christ and the Virgin Mary. These massive and very heavy pedestals are carried on the shoulders of numerous members of the religious brotherhood. Participating in the transport of the floats is a great honor. Some even complete the procession barefoot, as a sign of extreme penance.
