During the 1980s movement, he participated as an activist in almost every demonstration, was involved with the Rote Fabrik (Red Factory) movement, and was at odds with the Zurich city police. Since his surprise election to the Zurich City Council, the left-wing alternative Richard Wolff has headed precisely this city police force.
