For more than 1,000 years, the Penan roamed the jungles of the island of Borneo in the South Pacific as nomads. Sixty years ago, the first nomadic group settled in Long Lamai, establishing a village isolated from the outside world. Five years ago, when the chief decided to accept the offer from the Malaysian university to install internet access, a lot of things changed.

Photographer Kostas Maros (*1980) completed a law degree at university and worked in the legal field for several years before switching to photography as a self-taught photographer in 2013. Since then, he has worked for editorial and corporate clients in Switzerland and abroad; he also realizes reportage and art projects. He is a member of the photo agency 13photo (www.13photo.ch). His artistic work is represented by Galerie Wertheimer (www.galeriewertheimer.ch). He has received awards for his photographic work, including the Prix de la Photographie Paris, the Vfg Young Talent Award, and the Swiss Press Award. In 2018, he won the Swiss Photo Award for his work "HIDDEN - Hidden Places in Switzerland."
