It was her lifelong dream: Tanya Al-Khudri, deaf since birth, wanted to be a nurse. In order to achieve her ambition, she had to go up against prejudices and overcome many hurdles, including the skepticism of both her family and teachers. Today, aged 25, she works as a nurse in an old age nursing home, where her impairment has become an asset. Stephen Mossaz, who shadowed her for a day, observed that she has a special ability to listen. She takes extra time to sit with her patients and places herself right in front of them to read their lips, even though her implant enables her to understand some sounds. A portrait full of emotion and a lesson in courage and determination.
