Cultural subsidies are a major issue in Basel. When they were discussed in the Grand Council at the end of 2014, TagesWoche ran a series of articles, illustrating the otherwise dry topic with an infogame in which readers could make their own savings on the current budget and then distribute the money according to their own preferences. Two journalistic goals were central: First, readers should learn, in a playful way, how these subsidies are currently distributed. Second, the redistributions are analyzed in order to use crowdsourcing to determine which issues are important to our readership and how these differ from reality.
