Dominic Nahr

South Sudan seceded from Sudan on July 9, 2011. In 2012, the two countries fought over oil rich regions. The situation escalated in April when South Sudan seized the Heglig oil field (136). Bombings (135) caused collateral victims such as the civilians living in the Nuba Mountains, seen here hiding and starving in caves (132) or fleeing to refugee camps (134).
