Fetal surgery is the newest surgical discipline that allows for operating on unborn children in the womb. In 2014, the "Südostschweiz" newspaper followed the Frei family (name changed by the editors) from St. Gallen, who decided to undergo such a procedure. Their child was diagnosed with spina bifida. After the shocking diagnosis, during the major prenatal procedure, and afterward, as well as before and after the birth, the parents discuss their fears, worries, and emotions. With this series, the Frei family and Zurich University Hospital provide insights into fetal surgery.
