At the end of October, Ruth and Ernst Hofmann took the big step and the final move of their lives: They moved into a retirement home. The Berner Zeitung followed the Hofmanns on this journey in several articles, reporting on how and why they chose their retirement home, witnessed the clearing out of their old apartment, the move, and the move into the retirement home, and reported on how everyday life suddenly changes in such a residence. The goal is to use a concrete example to vividly illustrate this difficult phase of life for many people. The series also foreshadows a larger focus on the topic of life in old age, which the Berner Zeitung will realize in 2012.
