In human geography, the term "hinterland" refers to rural areas located in front of larger cities or catchment areas, inhabited by only a few residents and usually characterized by a reduced infrastructure. This work presents an excerpt from a multi-year, unpublished project that was initiated before the turn of the millennium and is still being pursued today. It focuses on the archaic daily life of people who work as subsistence farmers under the simplest conditions in Swiss mountain agriculture. The photographs are taken using analogue technology without additional lighting, using medium format and black and white.
