The photo essay documents the revival of life in the towns of Hernani and Guiuan in Eastern Samar, and in Tacloban in Leyte. Typhoon Haiyan, known as Yolanda in the Philippines, was an extremely powerful tropical cyclone that devastated the Philippines on November 8, 2013. The Philippine government reported more than 6,000 deaths and 1,800 missing. Nine million people were affected, 243,583 homes were completely destroyed, and 234,760 homes were damaged.
