In the hamlet of Kümmertshausen in Thurgau, a disability pensioner is found murdered. The man was a loner, an alcoholic, an old leftist who didn't fit in with the rural environment. No one can make sense of his violent death, because there was nothing to be gained from him. The neighbors are taciturn, only speaking after being assured of anonymity.
