The "Swiss Accident Map" is a data journalism project by SonntagsZeitung (Julian Schmidli), Tages-Anzeiger (Mario Stäuble), and Le Matin Dimanche (Alexandre Haederli). As a website, it is the centerpiece of a 10-article investigation into traffic accidents in Switzerland. The map offers the public access to complete accident data for the first time and, with complex algorithms and analysis tools, helps identify accident hotspots at the local level. Following its publication, numerous initiatives by politicians, interest groups, and citizens have already been launched to improve road safety on Swiss roads. The map has also been picked up by local media outlets and used for further research.
