Enrico Portmann, who served as a usher to five Federal Councilors in the Federal Department of Home Affairs, is retiring after 22 years of service. The former Swiss Guard in Rome was the personal valet of Flavio Cotti, Ruth Dreifuss, Pascal Couchepin, Didier Burkhalter, and Alain Berset. He describes his work as a vocation, not a profession. The Federal Council usher attends to his boss's everyday, practical needs, not to current political issues.
