Tripoli liberated

Olivier Vogelsang

At the start of 2011, Muammar Gaddafi was the Arab world’s longest serving leader, having ruled Libya since 1969. In February, the people started protesting against the leadership and the repression turned bloody. In August, the capital of Tripoli fell to the rebels, aided by an international coalition, leading to the demise of the Gaddafis. During the following weeks the lavish homes of the dictator and his family were ransacked.
