Cairo (Swiss Stories 2012, by David Wagnières) - Swiss Press Award

Le Temps
David Wagnières
From February 25th to March 5th, the newspaper Le Temps sent around fifteen journalists to various Arab capitals to report on the changes linked to the Arab Spring. The decentralized editorial team is based in Cairo with seven journalists, and I am the photographer. As in all editorial teams, I participated in the sessions, followed the journalists, organized my time according to requests, edited and sent the images to offer independent images the next day, but all this in Cairo, during the Arab Spring. An exceptional opportunity. I offer a selection of eight images from this week in Cairo. Then, in September, I returned to Tahrir Square with a journalist to meet Egyptian personalities. For the cultural supplement of Le Temps, I offer two images from this second trip. In making these different images, I set myself the principle of taking a step back from the event and not showing the same images that we had seen on the different press agencies during all these weeks, and above all to deliver work that lived up to the luck I had in participating in this operation.
