To escape the abject poverty in Ticino, Venerina Pascucci came to the industrially booming Glarus region in the 1930s. She lived in one of the many girls' homes whose goal was to raise children to be useful people through work and good care. She is the last Glarus contemporary witness of life in southern Glarus at that time—a life full of deprivation, alternating between religious life and factory work.
