The Central African Republic has been plagued by bloody massacres between Muslims and Christians. Numerous women and children find shelter in the Catholic Mission in the city of Bossangoa (152). In a move ­approved by the UN Security Council, France has sent thousands of soldiers to the country.

Michaël Zumstein, photographe franco-suisse, né en 1970, est diplômé de l’Ecole Supérieure de Photographie de Vevey (Suisse). Qu’il travaille en commande pour la presse française ou étrangère, ou sur des projets personnels, son travail s’inscrit dans la tradition du photojournalisme d’enquête. Depuis son premier voyage au Zaïre il y a près de 20 ans, à la chute de Mobutu, jusqu’à son traitement de la crise post-électorale en Côte d’Ivoire en 2011, Michaël Zumstein fixe son regard sur les « relations ambiguës entre l’Afrique et l’Occident ». Parallèlement à son travail, Michaël Zumstein anime, pour le World Press Photo, des ateliers photographiques en Afrique.
