For the first time in 30 years, the Swiss Air Force is conducting exercises on a highway: On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, F/A-18 fighter jets successfully took off and landed on the closed-off A1 highway near Payerne. The "Alpha Uno" exercise is designed to strengthen the army's defense capabilities through decentralization.
