Hildebrand Gurlitt's collection passed to his son Cornelius, who bequeathed the paintings to the Kunstmuseum Bern. During World War II, Gurlitt was among those art dealers who sold paintings from the "degenerate art" collection—but he doesn't allow himself to be easily labeled an unscrupulous profiteer, as is all too often the case.
