But then the coronavirus pandemic hit – and the people of Ticino begged the foreigners to stay. Lucia Saponaro, head of the Lugano Regional Hospital, an Italian who grew up in Germany, came to Switzerland to work, and moved to Como "for love," recounts the peak of the coronavirus pandemic.
